Ted Cruz apologized Wednesday for cracking a joke about Joe Biden less than a week after the death of the vice president’s son. “It was a mistake to use an old joke about Joe Biden during his time of grief, and I sincerely apologize,” Cruz said via social media. “The loss of his son is heartbreaking and tragic, and our prayers are very much with the vice president and his family.” The Republican senator was speaking at an event in Michgian when he reportedly joked, “Vice President Joe Biden. You know the nice thing? You don’t even need a punch line.” Cruz had reportedly made the joke during previous stump speeches. Biden’s son, Beau, died Saturday of brain cancer. He was 46.
